Local Legislators react to Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman’s death

In response to this weekend’s political violence, State Senator Torrey Westrom of Alexandria issued the following statement: “My prayers are with the Hortman and Hoffman families. Political violence has no place in our nation. Thank you to all our law enforcement officers for your swift response and unwavering dedication to justice.”

And State Representative Paul Anderson of District 12A added: “Words can’t fully express the profound shock and sadness felt today. The senseless loss of House Speaker Emeritas Melissa Hortman and the wounding of Senator John Hoffman shouldn’t have happened. We are seeing the boundaries of human behavior crumbling. May God bring comfort and strength to the Hortman and Hoffman families.”
