Marie V. Sunderman
Marie V. Sunderman, age 93 of Le Sueur, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at Ridgeview Hospital in Le Sueur, Minnesota. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at Kolden Funeral Home in Le Sueur from 4-7 P.M., and continued one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025 at the United Methodist Church in Le Sueur at 1 P.M. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, Le Sueur, MN. A luncheon will be served in the church social hall following the burial.
Marie Viola (Mueller) Sunderman was born on November 5, 1931 in Blakeley Township, Belle Plaine, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Emil and Mary (Otto) Mueller. She attended school in Le Sueur and graduated from Le Sueur High School in 1949.
On June 17, 1952, Marie was united in marriage to Eugene Howard Sunderman. Marie and Eugene made their home on the farmstead outside of Le Sueur and later moved to town in 1981. Marie would then spend the rest of her life there. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Michael, Mary and Machelle. Marie and Eugene shared over 61 years of marriage, before Eugene passed away on April 26, 2013.
In addition to being a hard-working farm wife, loving mother and devoted homemaker, she worked as a telephone operator for a short time up until she decided to stay home and raise her three children. Marie then worked as a Title 1 paraprofessional at Park Elementary in Le Sueur for 30 years where she put her heart and soul into teaching and loving each child she would help. She was a very active member of the United Methodist Church in Le Sueur, where she served many roles. Marie was a strong-willed woman who always took care of her family. Marie enjoyed morning coffee with the ladies, playing cards, trips to the casino, and making a difference in peoples lives.
Marie is survived by her children, Michael (Linda) Sunderman of Le Sueur, Mary (John) Andresen of Le Sueur, and Machelle “Shelley” (Sp. Friend, John Swart) Nolt of Slayton, MN; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Rose “Rosie” (Sp. Friend, Larry) of Wilmar, MN.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene in 2013; and many brothers and sisters.
