Celebration of Life for Mary Ann Haagenson will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Hoffman, MN.

Mary Ann Haagenson was born on May 10, 1939, in rural Hoffman, Minnesota, to Albin and Inga Larson. She was the youngest of 17 children. From an early age, she was given the nick name of “Tootsie” which was used throughout her life. She attended school in Hoffman, participated in choir, and was the Valedictorian of her class.

On February 28, 1958, Mary was united in marriage to Dennis Haagenson. After marriage, they settled in Rogers, MN, then later moved to Bloomington, MN. They were blessed with three children: Rhonda, Richard, and Rita. Mary was known as a kind and caring person and would nanny for her neighbors before she started in the workforce herself. While living in Bloomington, Mary and Dennis enjoyed dancing every Friday night at the Legion. She worked for Philllips-Temro for about 30 years. They lived close to the shop where she worked, and Mary just had to go right outside her back gate to get there.

After retirement, the couple moved to Garfield in their newly built home in the woods, where she and Dennis have resided since 2000. Before retirement, Mary and Dennis enjoyed many memories with their family at the cabin on Long Lake in Paynesville, MN with fishing, swimming, snowmobiling, and playing a lot of cards and games. As the winters became less appealing, Mary and Dennis became Texas “snowbirds”. While in Texas, they would go to weekend Bingo parties, pancake breakfasts, dancing, Pokeno, and many other activities within their community. Mary was also an avid gardener who enjoyed creating beautiful flower gardens, along with a Hosta Garden that had over two hundred different Hosta plants.

Mary is survived by her husband: Dennis; children: Rhonda (Ron) Prokott, Richard (Wendy) Haagenson, Rita (Chuck) Nelson; seven grandchildren: Kristin Haagenson (Ryan Pittsenburger), Sawyer Haagenson, Kelsey (Tom) Heeren, Seth Rehwaldt (Jamie), Sutton (Annalise) Rehwaldt, Nicholas (Chris) Nelson, Brian (Amy) Nelson; twelve great-grandchildren; sister-in-law: Georgia Dalum; and brother-in-law: Curt (Mavis) Haagenson.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Albin and Inga; sixteen siblings; brother-in-law: Dayton Haagenson; and sisters-in-law: Candace Bowden and Nancy Kelley.

Arrangements are with Erickson-Smith Funeral Home in Hoffman, MN.
