McCarthy to keep working out during Bye
(Eagan, MN/Minnesota News Network) — Minnesota Vikings quarterback J-J McCarthy won’t have much time off during the bye week. Head coach Kevin O’Connell told reporters yesterday that McCarthy will spend much this week working out at team headquarters and trying to progress back from his ankle injury. The second-year quarterback has missed Minnesota’s last three games and O’Connell was non-committal on when McCarthy might return to his starting role. Meanwhile, back-up quarterback Carson Wentz is dealing with a shoulder injury, but is expected to be fine to play in the next scheduled game against Philadelphia on October 19th, if he remains the starter. O’Connell was also complimentary of the team’s efforts on the offensive line in last week’s win over Cleveland in London. The coach was especially excited with how well Blake Brandel played at center. In other team news, the Vikes waived offensive lineman Vershon Lee and cut tight end Nick Vannett.
