Meeker County Trail Derailment

Crews are on the scene of a train derailment that happened in Meeker County Thursday evening.

The Sheriff’s Office says at just before 7:30pm, they received a report of the derailment of a Canadian Pacific Kansas City train about one mile west of Watkins.

Authorities say the initial assessment determined there is no hazardous material leaking and there is no threat to public safety at this time.

No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation.

As responding railroad crews will be parking trucks on Meeker / Stearns St. and a portion of the roadway will be closed to traffic, authorities say alternate routes will need to be taken for those who normally use that road.

The following roads are closed until further notice:

Meeker Stearns Street between 647th and 667th.

667th from just north of the Glenshire Addition to Meeker Stearns Street.

395th St (Watkins 4th St N.) from the Watkins City Limits to 667th Street.
