Minneapolis Man Gets 38 Years for Kandiyohi County Shooting, Murder

(KWLM/Learfield News/Willmar, MN) — A Minneapolis man has been sentenced to more than 38 years in prison for an October 2024 shooting and a murder in Kandiyohi County.

Twenty-seven-year-old Ameer Musa Matariyeh will have to serve 25-and-a-half years before behing eligible for parole.

Matariyeh was on the run from police when she shot and wounded Peter Mayerchak at the victim’s rural Lake Lillian home, then fatally shot 55-year-old Jerome Skluzacek in his pickup on the side of Highway 23 in Willmar.

In court Monday, Matariyeh apologized to his victims and their families and to his daughter for having to grow up without a father.
