Minnesota, St. Thomas both begin Basketball seasons today

(Minneapolis, MN/Minnesota News Network) — The Niko Medved-era of Minnesota Gophers basketball officially gets underway when Minnesota hosts Gardner-Webb at Williams Arena tonight. The Gophers hired Medved from Colorado State after last season. Minnesota has not been in the N-C-A-A Tournament since 2019. The Gophers swept past North Dakota State and North Dakota in a pair of exhibition games over the past few weeks. Tonight’s game tips off at 7 P-M at The Barn. Meanwhile, the Gopher women’s team will open the season tomorrow at home against North Dakota at 7 P-M at Williams Arena.

The St. Thomas men’s and women’s basketball teams open the season tonight with road games. The Tommies men’s team is at St. Mary’s in Moraga, California for a 9 P-M tipoff. The St. Thomas women play at 14th-ranked Iowa State this morning at 11 A-M. This is the first year the two teams are eligible to make the N-C-A-A Division Tournament at the end of the regular season.
