Empowering Communities, Celebrating Minnesota Locally

Minnesota wins inaugural PWHL championship with Game 5 victory over Boston

Minnesota beat Boston 3-0 in the decisive Game 5 of the PWHL Finals on Wednesday at Tsongas Center in Lowell, Mass., becoming the first team to hoist the Walter Cup. The title looked like it belonged to the Minnesota players.

Minnesota was in the driver’s seat Wednesday night, getting the first goal of the game when Liz Schepers score a tip-in goal 6 minutes, 14 seconds into the second period off assists from Sydney Brodt and Mellissa Channell.

Michaela Cava scored a wraparound goal 8 minutes, 8 seconds into the third period off feeds from Channell and Taylor Heise to provide Minnesota an insurance goal.

That proved to be enough of a cushion for Minnesota to close out the contest. Kendall Coyne Schofield officially sealed the deal with an empty-net goal with just 2 minutes, 6 seconds remaining in the game.
