Minnesota’s Midweek Storm Drops Up to 34 Inches on North Shore
(Undated) — A powerful midweek winter storm slammed Minnesota on Wednesday, burying parts of the North Shore under some of the heaviest snowfall of the season.
The largest total came from Hovland, where a weather spotter measured a massive 34 inches of snow.
Nearby communities also saw extreme accumulation, including Lutsen (24.5″), Little Marais (20″), and Two Harbors (18″). Ely, Chisholm, and Grand Rapids on the Iron Range reported nine inches.
In the southern part of the state, the travel advisories for south-central and southwestern Minnesota have been lifted. However, officials warn that many roads remain ice and slush covered and are slippery. Motorists are advised to reduce speed and drive according to conditions.
