MN Lawmakers Could Work Memorial Day Weekend to Finish State Budget
(Learfield News/St. Paul, MN) — Legislative leaders say lawmakers will work through the Memorial Day weekend on any budget bill that is not completed by the end of today (Fri).
Once that is done, the governor can call a special session.
Republican House Speaker Lisa Demuth believes that will happen sooner than later.
She told Capitol reporters, “progress our committees are making at this point don’t really leave any doubt in my mind that will happen as soon as possible. Leaders agree a special session can begin as early as middle of next week.
The deadline for the state budget is June 30th.
The state must send layoff notices to any entity that is not funded by June 1st.
