MORE COUNTIES REPORTING BIRD FLU

Two more counties are reporting Highly Pathogenic Avian influenza.  The Minnesota Board of Animal Health said Tuesday it has been confirmed in a flock of 15,000 in Stearns County and a flock of over 11,000 birds in Blue Earth County.  It was reported in a flock in Redwood County last week.  President of the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association Jake Vlaminck says he isn’t surprised because of the fall migration of wild birds.  Vlaminck says one option is to install lasers on your barns.  The Legislature appropriated money last session to help poultry growers purchase and install lasers to scare away migrating birds.  Each laser system costs around $16,000.
