MORE DETAILS RELEASED IN FATAL FIRE TRUCK CRASH

The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office has released more details about the fatal fire truck crash south of Cottonwood Friday evening.  The crash killed 43-year-old Patrick Remiger and injured both the driver Andrew Vanhecke and 6-year-old Beaux Vanhecke.  Authorities say a search warrant application from the sheriff’s office was put into the public files in the district court office.  A blood sample was taken from Andrew Vanhecke and that was sent to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.  Preliminary investigations show  the fire truck was headed north on 490th Street when it veered onto the shoulder, hit a mailbox and overcorrected.  The truck reportedly rolled several times before landing in the westbound ditch trapping Remiger underneath.  The search warrant application said that several 12-ounce cans of beer were located near the truck.  The investigation is ongoing and investigators had not referred a report to the County Attorney’s Office for consideration of criminal charges as of Wednesday.
