MORE DETAILS RELEASED IN GRANITE FALLS PLANE CRASH
The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Department has released more information about the plane crash that killed one person and injured another in Granite Falls Monday afternoon. Authorities say they received a report at 5:23 pm from Air Traffic Control of a jet experiencing engine trouble and then received a report that the plane had crashed near Highway 23 at 5:32 pm. Emergency responders arrived and saw one man standing along the highway receiving medical treatment. He has been identified as 43-year-old Mark Ruff of Dallas, Texas. A second occupant, identified by the Midwest Medical Examiner as 49-year-old David Dacus of San Francisco, California was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities discovered an unspent cartridge used for ejection seats in the jet. The Bloomington Bomb Squad and 148th Air Wing were called and the cartridge was safely removed and a controlled explosion was performed. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are on scene and continuing to investigate along with many other agencies.
