More Information Released on Granite Falls Plane Crash
More information has been released on the jet plane crash near the Granite Falls Airport Monday that left one occupant dead and another injured.
The Yellow Medicine Sheriff’s Office says 46-year-old David Dacus of San Francisco, California was pronounced dead at the scene. Forty-three-year-old Mark Ruff of Dallas, Texas was being treated at the scene.
The two were flying a 1979 Aero L-39 Albatros when the crash happened near Highway 23, just north of the intersection with County Road 39.
While at the crash scene, personnel determined that there was an unspent cartridge used for the ejection seats in the jet and crews were called in and safely removed it from the site and a controlled explosion was performed to render it safe.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are on scene and will be conducting a full investigation into the incident.
