Mpls Man Charged in Kandiyohi Co Murder Deemed Competent

(Willmar, MN) The Minneapolis man charged with the murder of a New London man in an apparent attempted carjacking in October on a highway outside Willmar has been deemed competent to continue with criminal proceedings.

The West Central Tribune reports 26-year-old Ameer Musa Matariyeh appeared in a virtual hearing with attorneys Tuesday in Kandiyohi County District Court to provide an update on the pending criminal case to Judge Stephen Wentzell.

A court-appointed examiner submitted findings in March that Matariyeh is competent to proceed in the criminal case. Neither attorney objected to the findings.

Matariyeh is accused of shooting and killing 55-year-old Jerome Skluzacek.

He’s also accused of shooting and wounding 25-year-old Peter Mayerchak at Mayerchak’s rural Lake Lillian Home during a police chase the same day.
