New Pope Elected
(ABC News) American Cardinal Robert Prevost is the 267th pontiff of the Catholic Church, his chosen name, Leo XIV.
After stepping out onto the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica to the sound cheering crowds and church bells, the 69-year-old Chicago native stood waving at the masses gathered in the square.
He then delivered his first message to the world focusing on bringing more peace and connections to the world and mentioned the late Pope Francis twice, explicitly saying he wants to pick up where his predecessor left off on that very balcony on Easter Sunday.
The conclave ended after only the second day of voting, marking one of the shortest in history.
