NEW ULM POLICE INVESTIGATING INCIDENT AT DETOX CENTER
New Ulm police are investigating an incident at detox Thursday night. Police say they were called shortly before 10 pm for the report of a patient that had assaulted staff and fled. Officers learned a 67-year-old New Ulm detox employee tried to protect another staff member. The suspect, a 42-year-old Mankato male, got ahold of an item that allowed him to access an exit door. When officers reviewed surveillance footage, they saw an SUV outside that may have been waiting for the suspect. The male detox employee was taken to the New Ulm Medical Center with minor injuries. A report was sent to the Brown County Attorney’s Office for consideration of fifth-degree assault and escape from custody charges. The investigation is ongoing.
