No Kings Protests in Minnesota
Despite advisories by state law enforcement officials to avoid attending protest rallies on Saturday following the assassination of State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark and the attempted murder of State Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette, an estimated 150 people showed up at the Stevens County Courthouse in Morris to hold a No Kings rally and march. Leaders of Indivisible Morris said they were not expecting any violent activity in Morris and wanted to express their right to peacefully protest the policies of the Trump administration and the gutting of federal programs and institutions. The Morris event was one of 42 scheduled protests throughout Minnesota that took place on Saturday, the largest of which drew thousands at the State Capitol in St. Paul. A scheduled rally for Saturday afternoon in Cyrus was cancelled due to security concerns.
