Olympics start today

(Cortina/Minnesota News Network) — United States skiing legend Lindsey Vonn says she still plans to compete in the Winter Olympics despite a ruptured A-C-L. She provided an update Tuesday after suffering the injury in her final race before the Milano Cortina Games on Friday. Vonn crashed while landing a jump in a World Cup race in Switzerland and was seen limping and keeping weight off her knee. The 41-year-old St. Paul native returned to skiing in 2024 after retiring in February 2019. She has won three Olympic medals in her career, including a gold medal in 2010.

The 2026 Winter Olympics technically start today with competition, even though opening ceremonies aren’t until Friday. The first events at the Milano Cortino games include alpine skiing training, luge training and curling. Events, including women’s preliminary ice hockey and ski jumping, take place tomorrow.
