One Defendant Pleads, Another Is Sentenced For Feeding Our Future Fraud Scheme
A Bloomington man has been sentenced for his role in the $250 Million Feeding our Future scheme.
According to the United States Attorney’s office, Mukhtar Mohamed Shariff (34) was sentenced to 210 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for exploiting a federally funded child nutrition program during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following a seven-week trial, Shariff was convicted of one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, one count of wire fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, and one count of money laundering.
The news comes as co-defendant Ayan Farah Abukar pleaded guilty for her role in the fraud scheme. Abukar pleaded guilty Friday to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
A sentencing hearing will be scheduled at a later date.
