Paynesville Man Arrested After Standoff

(Paynesville MN-) A Paynesville man was arrested after shooting at a SWAT team member during an armed standoff Saturday.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Department says they were called to an address on County Road 34 in Paynesville Township regarding a domestic incident.

They attempted to arrest the 58-year-old man but he refused to come out, and made threats to use some of his several firearms if they tried to come into his residence.

The Stearns-Benton SWAT Team was activated and they tried to negotiate a surrender. At 7:35pm, SWAT team members entered a bedroom window, and the suspect fired several rounds from a shotgun, with birdshot hitting a SWAT team member’s safety goggles.

He was then arrested without further incident, and no one was injured.
