POWER OUTAGE ON SOUTH SIDE OF NEW ULM

A substation breaker was tripped and caused a power outage on the south side of New Ulm around 2:30 Thursday afternoon.   Properties from at least 7th South Street to Kraft on Bridge Street.  Utilities officials confirm it was a tripped breaker on the south side substation and say that situation is rare.  The equipment was inspected and the breaker was reset.  Utilities are investigating the possibility of a mechanical failure because the breakers are designed to trip if there is a problem with the system.  Officials say that does not appear to be the case at this time.  Power was out for about 15 minutes.
