RADON TEST KITS AVAILABLE STARTING MONDAY

January is Radon Awareness month and free radon test kits will be available in Brown County starting Monday.  You will be able to pick up your kits at the Brown County Public Health Office as well as Sleepy Eye, Springfield and Comfrey City Halls while supplies last.  Brown County Public Health officials say two of five Minnesota homes have dangerous levels of radon which is an odorless, colorless and tasteless gas that can cause lung cancer.  In Brown County, over 70% of homes that were tested for radon had elevated levels.  Officials say the average radon level in Minnesota is over three times higher than the national average.  Homes in Minnesota should be tested at least every five years.  Radon comes through the soil and seeps through sealed cracks in basement floors and walls.
