Renville Man Convicted of 2nd Degree Murder in 2021 Fatal Shooting

(Learfield News/Olivia, MN) — A southern Minnesota man will be sentenced June 17th on a second-degree murder conviction in Renville County.

A jury found 29-year-old Julian Valdez guilty Monday in the August 2021 fatal shooting of 31-year-old Pablo Gutierrez.

Valdez reportedly shot Gutierrez because he was assaulting his stepbrother.

This was the second trial for Valdez.

He was convicted in July 2022, but the verdict was appealed, and the Minnesota Supreme Court ordered a new trial.
