RENVILLE MAN SENTENCED FOR MURDER

A Renville man has been sentenced to 11 ½ years in prison for the murder of another Renville man in 2021.  29-year-old Julian Valdez was convicted of Second-degree murder in May in the shooting death of Pablo Gutierrez.  Valdez was given credit for nearly three years he has spent behind bars after his arrest.  Valdez was convicted in 2022 but the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled the jury was given erroneous instructions and a new trial was ordered.  Court records say that in August of 2021 Gutierrez was angry at Valdez as they played pool in Valdez’s garage and Valdez eventually shot Gutierrez.
