Seattle ends Minnesota’s season-opening winning streak at 9, beating the Lynx 94-84
SEATTLE, WA — Nneka Ogwumike powered the Seattle Storm with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Erica Wheeler chipped in 20 points and six assists, helping snap the Minnesota Lynx’s nine-game season-opening winning streak with a 94-84 victory on Wednesday night.
A critical momentum shift came after a Minnesota basket was overturned due to a shot-clock violation. Seattle capitalized when Skylar Diggins-Smith drilled a 3-pointer to put the Storm ahead 83-79. Moments later, Diggins-Smith assisted Ezi Magbegor for an easy score, extending the lead to six.
Minnesota’s Kayla McBride hit a clutch 3-pointer with just over a minute left to bring the Lynx within one, 85-84. But Wheeler responded immediately with a 3-pointer of her own. Following a missed layup by Alanna Smith, Wheeler sealed the game by sinking two free throws with 25 seconds remaining.
Diggins-Smith finished the night with 18 points and six assists for Seattle (6-4). Magbegor contributed 13 points and eight rebounds, while Gabby Williams delivered a well-rounded performance with 12 points, eight boards, seven assists, and four steals.
Napheesa Collier led Minnesota (9-1) with 25 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. McBride added 19 points, including five 3-pointers on 11 attempts.
The Lynx had surged ahead with an 11-1 run to open the third quarter, taking a 60-49 lead. But Seattle stormed back with a 26-6 run, flipping the script and securing a 75-66 advantage early in the fourth.
