SENATOR KLOBUCHAR RELEASES STATEMENT HONORING CAPTAIN WILLIBALD BIANCHI OF NEW ULM
U.S Senator Amy Klobuchar has released a statement on the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agencies announcement that the remains of U.S Army Captain Willibald Charles Bianchi of New Ulm have been identified after more than 80 years. Bianchi was a Medal of Honor recipient, served as Commander of Company D, 1st Battalion, 45th Infantry Regiment, Phillipine Scouts on the Bataan Peninsula in the Phillipines in 1942 and was killed in 1944 when a ship he was on was attacked and sank. In her statement, Klobuchar said Bianchi showed valor during World War Two and compassion for fellow prisoners during the Bataan Death March and aboard Japanese Transport ships and looks forward to honoring Captain Bianchi and finally bringing his remains home. The New Ulm American Legion is named after Captain Bianchi and Ben J. Seifert.
