Severe Weather Awareness Week – Day 4 – It’s Tornado Drill Day!

It’s Tornado Drill Day!

Today is a good time to prepare, practice what you would do when a severe weather warning is issued.

Tornado Drill Information (April 11, 2024):

** 10:00 a.m.  The NWS will send a reminder of the drills via social media and issue a Public Information Statement. They will also have a message playing on NOAA Weather Radio.

** 1:45 p.m.  Test Tornado Warning.  The National Weather Service will activate NOAA Weather Radio with a tone alert in Minnesota. Shortly before 1:45 p.m., they will also send information on social media and issue a Public Information Statement.

This is a perfect time to practice going to a severe weather safe location at home or at work.

** 6:45 p.m.  A test Tornado Warning will be issued.  The National Weather Service (NWS) will activate NOAA Weather Radio with a tone alert in Minnesota. Shortly before 1:45 p.m., the NWS will also send information on social media and issue a Public Information Statement.

** NOAA Weather Radio – the use of the Routine Weekly Test (RWT) code on Thursday the 11th means that some weather radios will audibly alert for the RWT while others won’t.  It all depends on how the manufacturer designed a particular weather radio model for how it responds to tests.  If a radio does not audibly alert, it usually lights up the LED screen.

** Reminder: Sirens sound to alert the people who are outdoors, it’s important to have multiple ways to be alerted. Register to receive the Stevens County CodeRed Warnings by going to the county website, you could also monitor radio, television, and NOAA weather radio.
