SLEEPY EYE MAN FACING CHARGES IN NOBLES COUNTY AFTER HIGH-SPEED CHASE
A Sleepy Eye man is facing six charges in Nobles County Fifth District Court after he allegedly led police on a high speed chase on I-90 last month. The criminal complaint says 58-year-old James Hillyer is charged with two felonies – fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle and obstructing the legal process by interfering with a peace officer. He also faces gross misdemeanor driving after cancellation, misdemeanor counts of fleeing police by means other than a motor vehicle, reckless driving and a petty misdemeanor charge for speeding. The charges stem from an incident November 14 when Worthington police attempted a traffic stop on Hillyer. Hillyer allegedly did not slow down or stop reaching speeds of up to 130 miles per hour. The chase went through exits at Rushmore and Adrian and ended with the vehicle got stuck on railroad tracks. Worthington police learned that there is an active warrant for Hillyer out of Brown County.
