SLEEPY EYE SCHOOL BOARD APPROVES ‘STORM’ MASCOT

The Sleepy Eye School Board has approved a new mascot.  After discussion and a 4-2 vote, the Sleepy Eye board approved a Storm mascot to replace Chief Sleepy Eye.  The board had approved changing the mascot from the Indians to the Storm in March 2024 because 2023 legislation prohibited the use of American Indian images as school mascots after September 1, 2025.  The board approved the Storm mascot by a 4 – 2 vote and three votes were needed to break ties caused by six of seven board members.  Superintendent John Cselovszki said there is no state funding available for changing the mascot.
