SPECIAL ELECTION ANNOUNCED TO FILL HORTMAN’S SEAT

A special election will be September 16 to fill a Brooklyn Park-area state House seat left vacant when House DFL Leader Melissa Hortman was killed last month.  Governor Walz said today (Friday) that candidates can start filing on Tuesday for the district 34B seat.  Filing will close July 22 with possible primary elections on August 12 if multiple candidates from the same political party file to run.  Vance Boelter is being held on state and federal charges in the fatal shooting of Hortman and her husband as well as an attack on Senator John Hoffman and his wife, who are each recovering.
