SPECIAL LEGISLATIVE SESSION LOOMING

After missing their deadline, state lawmakers need extra time to finish up the budget.  Governor Walz will need to call a special sessions.  Republican Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson says the extra work needs to be done in the open so Minnesotans can track it.  He said they can’t work behind closed doors.  DFL House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman says the work needs to be done by June 1st or the state will have to start preparing for a government shutdown.  She says her hope is the work will be done as soon as possible, preferably no later than May 31st.  The deadline to avoid a government shutdown is June 30th.
