St. Thomas and Gopher Womens Basketball both win

(St. Paul, MN/Minnesota News Network) — The St. Thomas women’s basketball team beat Denver in overtime in St. Paul last night 74-65. The Tommies were paced by Jada Hood of St. Paul, who poured in a career-high 22 points on 8-for-15 shooting. St. Thomas improved to 8-8 overall and 1-1 in the Summit League. The visiting Pioneers fell to 7-9 overall and 1-2 in the conference. The Tommies will host South Dakota tomorrow at 4 P-M at Schoenecker Arena in St. Paul.

The University of Minnesota women’s basketball team led by eight points at the end of the first quarter, by 26 points at halftime and by 34 points at the end three quarters as they whipped the Wildcats of Northwestern in a Big Ten game in Minneapolis last night. Gopher sophomore guard Tori McKinney scored 18 of her game-high 20 points in the first half to help Minnesota to the victory. The 11-4 Gophers improved to 2-2 in the Big Ten, while the visiting Wildcats dipped to 6-10 overall and 0-5 in the conference. Minnesota outrebounded Northwestern 47-27 for the game. The Gophers are hosting 21st-ranked U-S-C on Sunday at 2 P-M at Williams Arena.
