Stearns County Jury Duty Scam Alert

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a phone scam claiming failure to report for jury duty.

The Sheriff’s Office says they’ve received reports where the caller impersonates Sgt. Bengston from the Sheriff’s Office and claims you have failed to report for jury duty and may demand personal information or payment to “avoid arrest.”

The Sheriff’s office says it’s not a legitimate call and their office will never demand payment over the phone or ask for personal information.

Jury duty notifications come through official court channels, not by threatening phone calls.

If you receive such a call, you should hang up immediately and report it to the Sheriff’s Office (320-251-4240).
