Susan Holen

Susan Ranae Holen passed away on March 8, 2025, at Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks, North Dakota. She was born on May 10, 1957, in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, to LaVerne and Marlene (Myhrer) Owens.

Susan attended kindergarten at Brandt Township Country School before continuing her education at Crookston Public School, where she graduated in 1976. After high school, she worked as a cook at Oakland Nursing Home, dedicating many years to serving others until her retirement.

On March 31, 1984, Susan married Daniel Holen, with whom she shared a life filled with love and companionship. She found great joy in spending time with family, especially in spoiling her nieces and nephews. She also had a passion for shopping, baking, and cooking for loved ones. Susan enjoyed watching heartfelt movies and was known for her big heart and beautiful smile.

She served many years as the Reiner Township Treasurer.

She was a devoted godmother to her niece, Gina Trehus and nephew, Jacob Owens.

Susan is survived by her husband, Daniel; her mother, Marlene Owens; siblings Cindy (Dewey) Trehus of Mandan, ND, Gary (Nicole) Owens Of Euclid, MN, Brad (Angie) Owens of Euclid, Minnesota, and Randy Owens of Osseo, Minnesota; three nieces, Gina Trehus, Kayla (Cordell) Booke, and Mikayla Owens; five nephews, Jacob Owens, Dilon Owens, Mason Owens, Tanner Owens, and Matthew Owens; sister-in-law, Diane Arreola and her son, Michael; as well as many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, LaVerne Owens; baby brother, Carl; her grandparents; father and mother-in-law, Harold and Luella Holen; and numerous aunts, uncles, and friends.

Visitation will begin at Noon with the service to celebrate Susan’s life at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Kris Snyder officiating. Burial will follow at Melo Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Angus, MN.

Susan’s kindness and warmth touched the lives of many. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
