Text Scam Complaints

The Brown County Sheriff department has received complaints Wednesday about scammers sending fake texts and email messages. The scammers are pretending to be from the Minnesota Department of Vehicle Services or other state agencies. The messages claim victims have an outstanding traffic ticket, action may be taken against them and directs them to a payment link. The Sheriff’s office said the scammers want the victims to log into the link. Anyone who receives this text or email is urged NOT to respond and delete it. The Minnesota DMV is aware of the scam and will never text or email you asking for a payment or personal information.
