Thousands of Citations Issued During Distracted Driving Crackdown

April’s month-long distracted driving enforcement campaign saw more than 6,000 hands-free cell-phone citations issued throughout Minnesota.

According to the State Department of Public Safety, 6,450 citations were issued from 241 Minnesota agencies. Authorities say the coordinated campaign, with funding from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, handed out 1,000 more citations than in 2024.

The Saint Paul Police Department issued the most citations, with 1,326. A 32-year-old man in that town was stopped twice in less than 10 minutes for a hands-free cell phone violation.
