Tiger Gameday – Section Semi Finals

Tiger Gameday – Section Semi Finals

Last Game: Hutchinson 43 St. Peter 8

Game Recap: Hutch took the opening drive in for a score and never looked back. Never punting once in the game. Kyle Bell rushed for 177 yards and 2 TD’s, Jack Maiers scored 3 TD’s, while Landon Teetzel got in through the air. Defense played well allowing St Peter just 193 Total Yards.

Current Record: 5-4

This Week’s Opponent: Marshall (8-0)

About the Opponent: We meet again Old Friend. Marshall hung a 43 point loss on Hutchinson in Week 4 this year. A week where everything that could go wrong, did for Hutch. Give Marshall credit though as they played well. They ran the ball, they were able to pass a bit, and they capitalized on A LOT of Hutch Mistakes. Marshall is one of only two Undefeated teams left in Class 4A (Byron the other). In my mind, they were the best team in Class 4A this year…and it will not be an easy task to try and beat them.

Key Hutch Players: OL. If Hutch has a chance to pull off the upset, then the Tigers will have to run the ball well. In their 4 game win streak Hutch has averaged over 300 yards rushing as a team. Kyle Bell crossed the 1,000 yard mark last week and is the FIRST EVER Hutch Sophomore to do that, and that include a couple players who would go on and wear NFL helmets. No run game, means not much of a chance. You’re not going to beat Marshall throwing the ball all the time. But an effective run game keeps the Marshall Offense off the field, and hopefully puts you in the endzone.

4 Downs/Storylines:
First Down: Cut down on the mistakes. To beat Marshall you’ll have to play your best game of the season, and not give up as many mistakes as last game. In Week 4 there were Interceptions thrown, Wide Open passes dropped, Bad Punt Snaps, and we could go on. You will NOT beat Marshall if those things happen again.
Second Down: Keep it Close. This team isn’t built to come from behind. If Marshall gets the big lead again it’ll be tough. But if you can hang around, put some doubt in the Marshall heads…then you’ve got a chance. Marshall is very good offensively, so you have to find a way to slow that down…or at least keep them off the scoreboard.
Third Down: Just play Football. There is NO pressure on this Hutch team tonight. Everyone is expecting Marshall to roll over Hutch. That means you can relax a bit and just play. Hutch doesn’t usually play the “Underdog” role…so this is kinda new. We hear it’s been a really good attitude this week in practice…which to me is a good mindset to have.
4
th Down/Quick Hit Keys: Who’s gonna come up with something unexpected? These teams know each other so well, Is someone going to change things up? Or do you just play Best vs Best and see who wins?…This is the only Evening game in this area today. Everyone else plays in the Afternoon. Plus, 7 out of the 10 area teams in action are on the road today and underdogs.
