Tiger Gameday – Week 1 vs Princeton
Tiger Gameday – Week 1 vs Princeton
Last Game: First Game of the Year!
Game Recap: Hutch is looking to rebound after an up and down season, finishing 4-6…but making it to the Section Championship Game. It will be a difficult road for the Tigers who might face the toughest schedule in the state…and I do mean that. Hutch’s opponents LAST YEAR went a combined 63-23, 7 of them had winning records, 5 of those advanced to at least their section championship game.
Current Record: 0-0
This Week’s Opponent: Princeton (0-0)
About the Opponent: Princeton is coming off a great season last year going 9-1. The only team to beat them was Becker who won the state Championship last year. Princeton’s strength is their Offensive Line, who brings back some of those road graders from last year’s team. Defensively there are some new faces, and there will be new faces at QB and RB.
Key Hutch Players: Hutchinson’s new faces. Of the 22 starting positions on Offense and Defense…9 are seniors, 9 are Juniors, and 4 are Sophomores. So that’s going to be more than 50% of your lineup making their first varsity start tonight. How can they handle the bright lights of a Friday…er, Thursday Night?
4 Downs/Storylines:
First Down: Turnovers. Week one is always about mistakes. As John and I have stated before…which team can screw up less tonight? Mistakes WILL happen. Can you minimize them? Can you capitalize on your opponents mistakes?
Second Down: Score some points. Doesn’t matter how you get them on the board, but you’re gonna have to get something on there. We expect Princeton’s offense to be just as good as they were last year…even with those new names I mentioned earlier. You’re not going to win 7-0. So who’s gonna step up for the offense? New starters for Hutch at RB/FB, TE, WR. By the way…we hear there’s a Freshman as one of the top backups at WR. There’s youth and inexperience here right now. BUT…there is talent.
Third Down: Defense come up with stops. Gonna have to be a bend but not break defense tonight. Hutch WILL be undersized for Princeton. Can you come up with ways to keep them out of the endzone? A completely new Defensive Line will have it’s hands full tonight. Can they hold up and keep Princeton to short gains? If they can’t it could be a long night.
4th Down/Quick Hit Keys: It’s Tackle Cancer tonight in Hutch….One of the big keys on Offense: Can the OL/TE’s protect and give the skill positions time to work? Especially with one starter out with injury.
