Tiger Gameday – Week 2

Tiger Gameday – Week 2

Last Game: Hutchinson 20 Princeton 7

Game Recap: Hutch’s defense was on point all night long, while it took the offense til the second half to catch up. The Tigers scored 20 unanswered points in the second half in earning their first win of the season.. Kyle Bell scored once, while Jack Maiers got in the endzone twice in the win. The Defense allowed only 249 yards of offense, while garnering 3 turnovers and 3 sacks in the game.

Current Record: 1-0

This Week’s Opponent: Becker (0-1)

About the Opponent: The Defending state champions are the opponent this week. And don’t be fooled by that loss last week to Orono. This is still a VERY good team. While I personally don’t think they are as good as last year, they are still going to win WAY MORE than they lose. They’ve got one of the top all around players in the state in Sawyer Brown. Plus They’ve got speed on both sides of the ball.

Key Hutch Players: Hutchinson’s Defensive Front 7. Hutch might actually have an advantage here (listen to Coach Rostberg’s Pregame Interview for more). But regardless of that, If Hutch can do what Orono did last week (Orono allowed Becker less than 20 yards rushing) and stop the run game it makes the team one dimensional and easier to stop. That task of stopping the run will go on the front 7. You can’t let Becker get into space where their speed can take over. Bottle them up, gang tackle. Sounds easy but it’s not.

4 Downs/Storylines:
First Down: Know where WR/RB/QB Sawyer Brown is at all times. I expect him to get the “Justin Jefferson” treatment from Hutch. Do everything you can to stop him and make someone else beat you. Because just like JJ, Brown can beat you all by himself if you let him. He’s that good.
Second Down: Keep the offense moving and on the field. First half last week was not good for the offense, but then something clicked in the second half and they played lights out. Keep that going this week. Hutch returns their best O-Lineman from injury this week so that will only make things better. 12 play, 8 minute drives will be very welcome tonight!
Third Down: Young Kids growth. A number of Sophomores and even a couple of Freshman saw time last week. Even some of the Seniors and Juniors saw their first starts last week. They haven’t been on the field for a game as big as this. How will they react? I’ll call it in Week 2 here…this season for Hutch will come down to how much EVERYONE can improve.
4
th Down/Quick Hit Keys: Hutch was a +2 in the Turnover department last week. Last year it took Hutch til the Section Semi Finals to get a game of a PLUS TO ratio…How does the win last week affect the kids mentally? Sometimes a win like that can relax the kids and they get better just by “playing football”…Expect Becker to take some deep shots on offense.
