Twins 4, Cubs 2
(Minnesota News Network- Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Twins beat the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night at Target Field, 4-2. The Twins scored two in the first to take the early 2-0 lead, and Matt Wallner hit a solo homer in the second inning to make it 3-0. Starter David Festa pitched five-and-one-third innings, and the bullpen allowed just one baserunner the rest of the way. Jhoan Duran pitched a perfect ninth for his 14th save. Byron Buxton left the game with a hand injury after he was hit by a pitch. The club says he has a “hand contusion” but the extent of the injury is not known. Manager Rocco Baldelli did say after the game that it looks like Buxton will be “okay” but the injury is sore and the team will have to “see.” The Twins have taken the first two games in this three-game series. The series wraps up today at 12:10 at Target Field, with Chris Paddack starting for the Twins against Colin Rea for the Cubs.
(Minneapolis, MN) — Major League Baseball has announced that Twins starter Joe Ryan has made the All-Star Roster. It’s Ryan’s first All-Star appearance. Ryan joins teammate Byron Buxton in making the roster. The All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday in Atlanta.
