Twins get blasted by Boston, Trade Duran to Philly
(Minneapolis, MN/Minnesota News Network) — The Boston Red Sox claimed their series against the Minnesota Twins by rolling to a 13-1 victory in the rubber match at Target Field yesterday. Boston broke open a close game with a four-run fifth inning and then added five runs in the ninth inning. Boston outfielder Jarren Duran led the way at the plate after going three for five with a two-run homer and four runs batted in. Boston has now won four of its last five games and improved to 59-51 on the year. Matt Wallner provided all of the Twins’ offense after hitting a solo home run. Minnesota has now dropped four of its last five games and sits at 51-57. The Twins are off tonight and will visit Cleveland tomorrow night.
The Minnesota Twins are continuing to sell ahead of the trade deadline. Minnesota traded right-hander reliever Jhoan Duran to Philadelphia yesterday. The Phillies sent catcher Eduardo Tait and pitcher Mick Abel to the Twins in the deal. According to E-S-P-N, Tait ranked fourth and Abel ranked sixth among Philadelphia’s minor league prospects. The 27-year-old Duran is 6-4 with a 2.01 earned run average and 16 saves through 49 appearances this season. The Major League Baseball trade deadline is today, so there could be more movement from the Twins today.
