Twins get season-high 17 hits, Bailey Ober allows 1 run in 7 2/3 innings in 11-1 rout of Guardians
CLEVELAND, OH — Jonah Bride had three of Minnesota’s 17 hits, and Bailey Ober pitched 7 2/3 strong innings as the Twins cruised to an 11-1 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Monday night.
Ten Twins players recorded hits — a feat the team hadn’t accomplished since last June against Oakland — and six had multi-hit games. Ryan Jeffers contributed a two-run homer and three RBIs, while Edouard Julien also went deep. Ty France and Byron Buxton each tallied two hits and two RBIs as Minnesota extended its winning streak to four games and has now won six of its last seven.
Ober (3-1) continued his strong form, earning his third straight win. Cleveland’s struggling pitching staff, which has now allowed 24 runs in two games, took another hit when reliever Paul Sewald exited in the fifth with right shoulder inflammation. Shortstop Will Wilson was forced to pitch the final two innings, giving up Jeffers’ home run.
Guardians starter Gavin Williams (2-2) was tagged for four runs on seven hits over just two innings. Steven Kwan provided a bright spot for Cleveland by extending his hitting streak to 11 games, but the team has now lost three straight and four of its last five.
Julien launched a leadoff homer — his fourth career — off a high fastball from Williams, marking the second time during the homestand that a Guardians starter allowed a first-pitch home run.
Minnesota set a season-high with 17 hits and went 8-for-14 with runners in scoring position.
