Twins Lose To Pirates/Draft Four Players

(Learfield News/Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Twins gave up a run in the top of the ninth during a 2-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates at Target Field Sunday afternoon.

Minnesota closer Jhoan Duran was charged with the loss after allowing a RBI ground-out to Spencer Horwitz during the frame. The play was nearly an inning-ending double play, but second baseman Brooks Lee had troubled getting the ball out of his glove.

Byron Buxton drove in Minnesota’s only run in the losing effort.

The Twins took two of three in the series and head into the All-Star break as the second place team in the A-L Central at 47-49.

The Twins are bringing in some young talent to the organization.

The team drafted four players on day one of the MLB Draft Sunday night.

Minnesota selected Wake Forest shortstop Marek Houston with the 16th overall pick in the first round before selecting Alabama pitcher Riley Quick in the first compensatory round.

The Twins also added shortstop Quentin Young and pitcher James Ellwanger to round out the first day. The MLB Draft continues today (Monday).
