Twins Make Trade

(Minnesota News Network- Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Twins announced that they have acquired minor league infielder Andy Lugo from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for right-handed pitcher Jorge Alcala. Lugo, 21, has played in 44 games for High-A Greenville this season, hitting .265 (40-for-151) with 11 doubles, one triple, four home runs, 20 R-B-I, 16 runs scored, 14 walks and four stolen bases. The San Cristóbal, Dominican Republic native was signed by the Red Sox in July of 2021 and has played in 208 games across parts of three seasons in Boston’s minor league system. To replace Alcala on the 26-man roster, the Twins will activate left-handed pitcher Joey Wentz prior to Thursday’s game vs. the Texas Rangers. Wentz was claimed off waivers on Wednesday from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
