Twins Open Series With Win

Minnesota slugger Byron Buxton had a big night as the Twins pounded the Athletics 10-4 in Sacramento. Buxton had a pair of hits and five R-B-I as Minnesota raced out to an early 6-0 lead and never looked back. Joe Ryan earned his sixth win after allowing four runs on six hits in five innings. Twins Manager Rocco Baldelli was impressed with Ryan getting out of a bases loaded jam with no outs in the fifth.

The Twins are in third place in the A-L Central at 32-27. Lawrence Butler went deep in the losing effort for the A’s, while Luis Severino was charged with the loss after surrendering eight runs on nine hits in five-and-two-thirds innings. The A’s are on a seven-game losing streak and sit at 23-38. Game two of the four-game series is tonight at 9:05 P-M. Listen for coverage on KNUJ and SAM 107.3.
