Twins Power Past Mariners 10-1 After Long Rain Delay
MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Trevor Larnach hit a home run and drove in three runs, while Simeon Woods Richardson delivered five scoreless innings to lead the Minnesota Twins to a dominant 10-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Thursday. The game, played at Target Field, was delayed by rain for 4 hours and 22 minutes.
Brooks Lee jump-started an explosive eight-run sixth inning with a leadoff homer against Mariners reliever Zach Pop. The Twins piled on with RBI doubles from Byron Buxton and Willi Castro, a two-run single by Carlos Correa, and a two-run home run by Matt Wallner. It was Minnesota’s biggest inning since scoring nine runs in the first inning against the Yankees on April 13, 2023.
Woods Richardson (3-4) followed up Joe Ryan’s six scoreless innings from Wednesday’s 2-0 win with another strong performance, helping the Twins (39-42) secure back-to-back victories for the first time since their three-game win streak from June 3–5. Minnesota had struggled since then, dropping 15 of 18 games.
Seattle starter Emerson Hancock (3-4) held the Twins scoreless through four innings before surrendering a two-run homer to Larnach in the fifth.
The Mariners suffered a blow in the fifth inning when catcher Mitch Garver exited after taking a foul ball off the mask from Wallner. With Garver out, star catcher Cal Raleigh was forced into action behind the plate, eliminating the team’s designated hitter for the rest of the game.
One highlight for the Twins’ defense came when Woods Richardson snagged a sharp line drive to open the fourth inning, flashing a grin at Seattle’s Julio Rodríguez, who looked on in appreciation.
The rain delay was among the longest in Target Field history—only surpassed by a 4-hour, 50-minute delay in 2017.
