Twins Shut Out Yankees
Minnesota right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson was nearly unhittable as his Twins beat the New York Yankees 7-0 at Target Field last night. Woods Richardson earned his seventh win after striking out 11 batters and holding the Yankees to just two hits in six scoreless innings. Austin Martin drove in four runs in the victory, including a bases-loaded, bases-clearing double in a five-run seventh inning. Twins manager Rocco Baldelli says it is great to see Austin Martin playing well.
Brooks Lee homered in the fifth inning and drove in two runs during the win. New York lefty Carlos Rodon was charged with his ninth loss after surrendering two runs on five hits in six frames. The Yankees hold the first A-L Wild Card spot with an 83-67 record. The Twins improved to 66-84. They send Zebby Matthews to the mound against New York tonight for game two of the three-game series in Minneapolis. Coverage begins at 6pm on KNUJ and SAM 107.3.
