Twins take first game of series with Athletics

(Sacramento, CA/ Minnesota News Network) — Minnesota slugger Byron Buxton had a big night as the Twins pounded the Athletics 10-4 in Sacramento. Buxton had a pair of hits and five R-B-I as Minnesota raced out to an early 6-0 lead and never looked back. Joe Ryan earned his sixth win after allowing four runs on six hits in five innings. The Twins are in third place in the A-L Central at 32-27. Lawrence Butler went deep in the losing effort for the A’s, while Luis Severino was charged with the loss after surrendering eight runs on nine hits in five-and-two-thirds innings. The A’s are on a seven-game losing streak and sit at 23-38. Game two of the four-game series is tonight at 9:05 P-M.
