Twins Top Dodgers 10-7 Behind Big Nights from Lewis and Vázquez
LOS ANGELES, CA — Royce Lewis and Christian Vázquez each drove in three runs to lead the Minnesota Twins to a 10-7 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night.
Lewis, who grew up in nearby Orange County, made his presence felt with a run-scoring fielder’s choice in the second inning, a bases-loaded walk in the sixth, and a ground ball in the seventh that brought in two more runs thanks to a throwing error by Dodgers pitcher Edgardo Henriquez.
Brock Stewart (2-1) picked up the win with a scoreless fifth inning in relief for Minnesota.
The Dodgers got home runs from Andy Pages — a three-run blast — and Shohei Ohtani, who hit a two-run shot. Ohtani has now homered in four straight games for the first time in his MLB career. Despite breaking a six-game home losing streak on Monday, the Dodgers have dropped 11 of their last 14 games since July 4.
Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits over five innings. Ben Casparius (7-4) struggled in the sixth, giving up three runs without recording an out. He later exited the game with a right calf cramp after issuing a bases-loaded walk to Lewis. The Dodgers’ bullpen combined for six walks.
The Twins broke a 3-3 tie with a three-run sixth inning that included Lewis’ walk, an RBI groundout by Harrison Bader, and a single by Vázquez. After Hyeseong Kim narrowed the gap to 6-5 with a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth, Minnesota responded in the seventh with another three-run frame, highlighted by Lewis’ comebacker that turned into a two-run error. Ty France, a West Covina native, added an RBI double in the ninth.
The win was only Minnesota’s third against the Dodgers since 2017, and just their third all-time at Dodger Stadium, where they are now 3-13 including postseason games.
